Conference Session Proposals

Submission Deadline: Monday, July 1st

Individuals chosen for session proposals will receive a 25% conference discount and be invited to an afternoon presenters luncheon. All submissions should be emailed to Christy Tallamy:

Traditional Session Proposal: 45 minutes

  • Conference sessions should be 45 minutes in length inclusive of introductory remarks, closing remarks, and Q & A.
  • Topics include, but are not limited to, technology, technique, business strategies, music history, teaching methods, studio management, performance, or pedagogy.
  • Teachers of all instruments and voice are encouraged to submit proposals.
  • Membership in VMTA or MTNA is not a requirement.
  • All selected presenters are required to register for the conference at a discounted rate.

Studio One “One-Talk” Proposal: 20 minutes

  • Studio One will be a group presentation with presenters focusing on Private Studio Management. Each speaker will give a 15-20 minutes One-Talk. 
  • One-Talks can be thought of as “lessons” or visualized as a teaching moment with a student– succinct and to the point. 
  • OPTION: One-Talks could be formatted as a scene– acting out a real challenge moment in the studio and providing sample solutions.
  • OPTION: Reach out to a peer and prepare a presentation together. 
  • OPTION: Use a testimony format by sharing a real problem/solution you’ve faced in your private studio with students, parents, tech issues or business management.
  • Choose one area of focus for your One-Talk: Pedagogy, Parent Partnering, Tech Support, Daily Operations

Traditional and/or One-Talk Session Submission Instructions

Please include the following information when submitting your proposal:

  • Contact mailing address and e-mail
  • Title of session or One-Talk focus area
  • Full description of the proposal (250 words or less)
  • Description of session for the program book (35 words or less)
  • Presenter’s bio for the conference program book (35 words or less)
  • Equipment needed for the presentation
  • Photos are not needed at this time

Virginia Music Teachers Concert Submission Instructions

Please include the following information when submitting your request:

  • First and last name of the performer(s) with their instrument(s)
  • Title of repertoire
  • Full name of composer
  • Length of performance
  • For non-traditional music, please indicate if introductory remarks will be needed. The remarks should not exceed three minutes.

Performers must be registered attendees for the conference. The list of performers will be announced on September 1.
